Special considerations are crucial when treating pregnant women.

Pregnancy and Chiropractic

Dr. Eaton is a certified Webster practitioner. The Webster technique is a specific evaluation and treatment protocol designed to address and remove intrauterine constraint and restore balance in a pregnant woman’s pelvis. This technique is often utilized to achieve a head down position for birth and help to ensure vaginal delivery.

In 18 years of practice, Dr. Eaton has established and maintains professional working relationships with several local doulas, midwives, and OBGYNs.

It is our goal to provide support, encouragement, and education to women on their journey towards motherhood.

Special considerations are necessary when treating a pregnant woman, and Dr. Eaton will make every effort to understand each family’s wishes in order to establish a treatment plan to support that goal.

Every woman's pregnancy is different.

Below is a list of common ailments associated with pregnancy. Each of these complaints can be helped with chiropractic care.

  • The majority of changes that happen during pregnancy happen within a woman’s pelvis. These changes are necessary but can contribute to generalized pain/discomfort in and around the pelvic area and into the hips.

  • As pregnancy progresses, a woman’s center of gravity changes. With the additional weight a woman is carrying, it is not uncommon to develop pain in the low back.

  • Headaches are common in pregnancy. Sometimes they are a product of hormonal changes associated with the pregnancy and sometimes headaches are related to postural changes and anterior head carriage.

  • Pubic Symphysis Dysfunction is common throughout pregnancy. Ligaments that attach to the uterus and also to the pelvis can become strained and can contribute to pain over the pubic bone.

  • As a pregnant belly grows, a woman’s rib cage can begin to flare out in an attempt to accommodate a growing fetus. This can cause costochondritis and can also lead to increased risk of separation of the abdominal musculature. Breathwork and abdominal breathing can help to alleviate this common complaint.

  • The round ligament is the connection between the pelvis and the uterus. Torque or rotation in the pelvis can contribute to extra strain on the round ligament and can be very uncomfortable during normal activity.

  • Pain that radiates into the legs is termed sciatica. Sciatica can come on at any stage of pregnancy and can be debilitating. Chiropractic care is a great tool to address this concern in pregnancy.
